Sickness and Allergy

Will's been sick this week with a nasty ear infection, cough, snotty nose, fever, etc... He's getting his appetite back and seems to be in better spirits today. I've been having a tough time with Will's food allergies. It seems like the only people that understand it are other food allergy moms. I'm so grateful that there is a new Food Allergy Moms group in Murfreesboro. We've been meeting with each other and sharing tips. It's been great.
Will is allergic to peanuts and dairy and I pray every day that he will outgrow his allergies, although I realize the peanuts is unlikely. We have an allergist appt. Nov. 4th. Will is not only allergic by consumption he is also allergic by skin touch with both peanuts and dairy. If I touch a piece of cheese to his skin he will break out in hives. He is so sensitive that he cannot eat anything on shared equipment. Everything and I mean everything is made on shared equipment and almost everything has dairy as an ingredient. Will cannot so much as crawl over a piece of cheese or muffin crumb, much less put it in his mouth without having a reaction. Because of this our house is peanut and dairy free to the point that if Will couldn't eat it we can't either. Peanut butter takes 8 hours to wear off, even if you brush your teeth. So for 8 hours we can't kiss our son? Not worth it. If we eat, let's say Cheetos and some dust gets on the floor and he crawls over it he has a reaction. Not worth it. There is one kind of cracker, one type of soy yogurt and a couple brands of soy milk (not in the refrig. section) that aren't on shared equipment. I got Jody oreos for a snack because they are dairy and peanut free then I see the kosher dairy symbol on the package. It means there was either diary on the equipment and it was washed down to meet kosher guidelines, but there still could be a traces of dairy that could get on the food or that there are dairy derrivatives in the food. The kosher diary symbol is a U with a circle around it and then a D beside it. It's on the front in small print of most packages. I never paid attention to it until now. Will can only have true kosher things. That symbol is a K or a U with a circle around it with no D to the side or Pareve. So he took the oreos to took. Not only am I looking for kosher I am also looking for peanut free. It's tough to put it mildly, but we want our home to be an oasis for Will.
