38 Weeks (Kidney Scare)

My regular doctor is out of town this week, so I saw another doctor in the same practice today. Initially when I had my blood pressure taken, it was high. I had to lay on my side for a half hour and have it taken again. On 2nd reading it was normal. Also, for the 1st time, I had a trace amount of protein in my urine. When we met with the doctor she said okay let's go over everything as she reads my chart. It says here you had a placental problem that resolved. Yes we said nodding our heads. ...And you know you're going to have a big baby. Yes, we said again. ...And you know your baby's kidneys are big. HUH? No one told us that! So then she goes on to explain that our baby has mild hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis is really an umbrella term that could be any number of different kidney problems, from a blockage to abnormal backflow of urine from the bladder back into the kidney. The majority of mild cases are self-resolving in utero or in the 1st 2 years of life. We have an ultrasound on Monday to see if Will's kidneys have gotten bigger, stayed the same or self-resolved. We're praying that they'll be self-resolved. Just think, I was worried about having a big baby a few short hours ago, now all I care about is if his kidneys will be okay. I go back to the doctor this Thursday to have my blood pressure and urine protein checked again. I am supossed to take naps everyday and cut down on my baby preparations, so my blood pressure won't get high. I am now scheduled to be induced if I don't have the baby earlier. I go in for induction at 11:30 pm on Nov. 18 and will have the baby sometime on Monday the 19th.
